DCF Program Matches Businesses With Needy Families
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – More help is on the way to South Florida's neediest families thanks to a new program being launched by the state's child welfare department.
Department of Children and Families Secretary David Wilkins said he's talked with many businesses that were already helping families or looking for a better way to get connected. That's why the agency created a formal program, Partners for Promise, to assist them.
Businesses can offer everything from free haircuts to tutoring for foster children or donating proceeds. The program also encourages businesses to give employees time off to mentor a child.
Wilkins said potential ways to get involved are "only limited by our imagination."
AT&T, Starbucks, Wells Fargo and Centennial were also at Monday's event in Tallahassee.
