Day 2 Of Early Voting Goes Smoothly
MIAMI (CBS4) – With nine days to go until November's Election Day, local election officials said day two of the early voting period went off relatively smoothly.
"We heard about the long waits and that's why we're here early," said Rick Maday.
He along with dozens of other voters were in line at the Miami-Dade County Elections Department in Doral promptly at 7 a.m. so they could be the first to cast their ballots.
Meanwhile at Government Center in downtown Miami, lines were minimal.
"I was in and out in 15 minutes," said early voter Deric Stratt.
CURRENT WAIT TIMES AT MIAMI-DADE POLLING LOCATIONS
Elections officials in Miami Dade said more people voted early on day one of early voting this year than they did four years ago.
"It was more than double what it was on the first day of early voting in 2008, with more than 25,000 voting just yesterday alone in Miami-Dade, said Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections Christina White.
In Broward County, nearly 28,000 people voted early on the first day of early voting, and thousands more were in line on Sunday.
Neither county has reported any major early voting issues as of day two.
If you plan on voting early, visit your county's election websites, read the ballot and check estimated waiting times. The shortest line might not be at the voting site closest to your house.
Another way to cast your vote early is by absentee ballot.
In Miami-Dade, of the 253,406 absentee ballots requested, 102,934 have been returned. In Broward, out of the 209,828 absentee ballots requested, 60,975 have been returned. In Monroe County, 7,699 absentee ballots.
