Davie To Rename Street After Slain Detective Castillo

DAVIE (CBS4)- A South Florida city is naming one of its streets after a slain Miami-Dade detective killed while on duty in January.
On Wednesday, council members approved a plan to change the name of Lancelot Court to Roger Castillo Court.
A ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. May 14 to dedicate the new sign and a memorial garden planned by the neighborhood, according to town officials.
Castillo, 41, lived in Davie with his wife and three pre-teen sons.
Castillo and detective Amanda Haworth were killed on January 20 while serving a warrant for the arrest of Johnny Simms who was also killed in the gunfire by a third officer during the shootout.
Castillo was a 21-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department.
Castillo was described as a hero with the dream of becoming a police officer at a young age.
A trust fund was established for the families of Castillo and Haworth. Donations can be made online at the Police Officer Assistance Trust Fund (POAT) Website at www.poat.org.
