DAVIE (CBSMiami)-- Two Davie store employees have been arrested for allegedly running a food stamp scheme.
Davie Police arrested store operator Mohamed Yusuf Belim and store clerk Syed Tariq Mansoor on Thursday.
"About a year ago wee received some information from local residents of Davie, that the operator of the store was giving cash for EBT cards....it's generally food stamps," said Capt. Dale Engle with Davie Police.
Officers said they would give the seller about 50 percent of the worth of the card in cash which they would then use for purchases at stores
But they would then allegedly resell the same items at the store of a Davie Sunoco gas station at a profit.
Engle also said the store was selling synthetic marijuana.
The two men face charges of fraud and sale of synthetic narcotics, according to police.
Authorities are unsure how much money the men allegedly made off with due to the scheme because police are unsure how many people were affected.
Detectives are asking people who believe they were a victim of the scheme to come forward.
"These people are stealing our money. This is our tax money that's going to who knows where," said Engle.
Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
