One Person Killed, 3 Injured In Davie Police Officer Involved Crash
DAVIE (CBS4) - Davie Police are sorting out the details of a deadly crash in which a police officer was involved.
Video from Chopper 4 showed the aftermath -- a police car with its passenger side smashed in and another car totaled with its' driver dead inside.
Davie Police said the driver failed to stop when an officer tried to pull him over Thursday afternoon near Davie Road and Stirling Road.
Police said a backup officer was waiting for the car in the 4800 block of Davie Road when the car slammed into him.
Davie Police said the officer's injuries were not life-threatening while two passengers inside the car were left in critical condition. All three were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood.
Shelly Guy told CBS 4 News that her son, Brandon Abercrombie, 16, was the driver who died.
She says her son's brakes were faulty and that's why he didn't stop.
"I honestly believe my son could not stop," she told CBS 4's Carey Codd.
The crash happened right outside of a church. Youth Pastor Mike Green ran with a fire extinguished to try and help.
"Whenever people are hurt it's tough to witness and you know there were obviously there were people in pain and they were hurt, so it was difficult," Green said.
It was especially difficult for Shelly Guy, who wonders if her son's death could have been prevented.
"I think this is an injustice," she said. "I think they could've stopped my son without doing excessive force and maybe my son would have been alive right now."
Several witnesses on scene told CBS 4 News they heard a squealing of brakes before the impact as if the driver of the car tried to stop. Davie Police said traffic homicide investigators will be looking into everything.
