Man Killed In Davie Gunfire Exchange Between Drivers
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Davie police are investigating a deadly shooting on S. Flamingo Road Friday afternoon.
Police said one man is dead after 2 drivers exchanged gunfire in the area of SW 8TH Street and S. Flamingo Road.
Authorities said the other driver has life-threatening injuries. The driver was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. It's not known what led to the shooting.
"The cause of what started this incident is not known," said Davie Police Sgt. Mark Leone. "We're investigating all possibilities, including road rage."
In the road lay a handgun. Crime scene investigators focused on that weapon and other evidence nearby.
"We do have many spent shell casings along with a firearm that we're taking under consideration for evidence," Leone said.
TJ Anderson, 11, was in his bedroom watching YouTube with his dog, Bella when he heard shots. He waited a bit and went outside with others and snapped these photos.
"I just heard 3 loud bangs. I didn't know what it was," Anderson said, with his mom and brother standing nearby. "It's pretty scary knowing that it just happened literally on the street."
His mom told us she's grateful TJ was safe.
The shooting caused Flamingo Road to be shut down for hours. After 6 pm a tow truck removed the whit utility vehicle as detectives continued to search for answers about what sparked a shootout on a busy road during the day.
"We do have some witnesses who say they heard gunshots so if anybody was in the area during this altercation please contact the Davie Police Department so we can get a better idea of what's going on," Leone said.
