Dash Cam Video Shows Officers Nearly Run Over During Traffic Stop
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) - Dramatic dash cam video released Friday shows a close call involving an FHP trooper, a plain-clothes officer and a driver who didn't want to listen.
The video was captured on January 10th at the Turnpike exit ramp at 27th Ave. in Miami Gardens.
"Get out the car now. Get out. Get out now, right now," Florida Highway Patrol trooper Mosel Carter can be heard saying.
His gun is drawn and his commands are clear, but the driver of the stopped black Range Rover did not obey, despite another officer also stepping in.
"Let me see your hands. Get out," the trooper repeats.
The man in the Range Rover hit the gas, forcing the officer onto the hood of the cruiser, nearly running both men over.
The trooper went after him but couldn't keep up.
The offense report said Trooper Mosel was on routine patrol running radar on NW 57th Avenue and 204th Street when he spotted the black Range Rover going 81 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.
He tried to stop him then, but the driver just kept going, eventually leading to the dramatic scene off the Turnpike.
Days after the chase, with the help of Sunpass photos and license plate records, investigators said they determined 33-year-old Christian Padilla was the man behind the wheel.
He's facing a slew of charges, including resisting an officer with violence, aggravated assault and fleeing and eluding.
As for the officers, neither was hurt, despite the very close call.
Padilla's trial is scheduled to start next month.
