Dash Cam Video Released Of L.A. Dodgers Puig's Arrest
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Los Angeles Dodgers all-star player Yasiel Puig was arrested on a Saturday morning in December on a reckless driving charge for the second time in 2013.
The dash cam video of Puig's arrest, obtained exclusively obtained exclusively by Naples Daily News, was released Tuesday.
The trooper, who pulled Puig over after he was allegedly driving 110-miles-per-hour on Alligator Alley, is captured on video clocking Puig's speed, pulling him over, and eventually asking him to lower the window.
The trooper can be heard in the dash cam video saying, "I need somebody's license. He's probably going to jail--I'm going to tell you that right now. Why? That's reckless ma'am. 110 miles per hour? One, two, three lives [presumably counting passengers] at risk? Plus passing traffic? You tell me." The trooper follows with, "So he put all of you lives in danger for no reason whatsoever."
The FHP then asks Puig where he is from. Puig can be heard telling the trooper he's from Cuba, and the trooper begins speaking to him in Spanish.
Shortly after Puig starts speaking Spanish, he tells the trooper that one passenger is his mother--which doesn't seem to go well with the trooper.
The exchange between Puig and the trooper continues and eventually ends with Puig's arrest.

A news release from the Florida Highway Patrol said a white Mercedes driven by the 23-year-old Cuban defector was pulled over around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
Authorities said Puig was arrested and charged with reckless driving and taken to the Collier County Jail for processing. He was later released from the jail on $500 bond.
Puig lives in the Miami area during the offseason.
Dodgers spokesman Joe Jareck declined to comment on Puig's latest arrest.

In April, when he was still in the minors, Puig was charged with reckless driving and speeding after Chattanooga, Tenn., police clocked him going 97 mph in a 50 mph zone. The charges were dismissed in November after Puig completed community service in Los Angeles.
Puig was an instant sensation with the Dodgers last season, batting .319 with 19 home runs and 42 RBIs. He helped them reach the NL championship series, where they lost to St. Louis, and was runner-up for the Rookie of the Year award.
Puig signed a $42 million, seven-year contract in June 2012, a record for a Cuban defector. He received a $12 million signing bonus and made $2 million last season.
