"Dark Knight" Composer To Lead UM Music Institute

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A composer who won a Grammy award for his work on "The Dark Knight" has been selected as the new artistic director for the Henry Mancini Institute at the University of Miami.
James Newton Howard, who also composed music for the movie Maleficent and the "Hunger Games" series will start work at the Coral Gables school in January. Howard has been nominated for an Oscar eight times.
Howard says Mancini was one of his musical heroes, and he's eager to work with Miami students "in an ever-evolving musical world."
The Henry Mancini Institute at the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music is a graduate training program for 65 aspiring professional musicians. Howard succeeds film composer and trumpeter Terence Blanchard, who led the institute for seven years.
