Dade's Clerk Of Courts Office Goes Mobile
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Clerks of Court have come up with a way to serve the people online rather than in line.
Clerks office chief Harvey Ruvin said his department launched a mobile portal on Thursday that puts thousand of county records at a smart phone users finger tips, according to CBS4's partner the Miami Herald. The website enables the public to access the material without the need to download an app.
Smartphone users will be able to get a hold of marriage licenses, pay parking tickets and obtain certified copies of documents online.
Ruvin, who has run the state's clerk's office since 1992, told the paper that going mobile was all about delivering services to the people the way they want to use them.
"We have custody of and manage all the courts and county commission records,'' Ruvin told the Miami Herald. "The more accessible we can make it, the greater public value that asset becomes.''
Ruvin hopes that the move to mobile will cut down lines at county facilities as well as costs.
The project didn't cost the office extra money either.
"It's all being done in-house with full-time employees," Ruvin told the Herald.
Eighty percent of all collections are paid electronically, including by phone and Internet, according to Laurie F. Reaves, director of the technical services division for the clerk's office. Adding the mobile ability will help people do business on the go.
The mobile access is part of a series of technology upgrades at the county clerk's office, according to the Herald. The clerk's office plans to launch two other phases of the project by the summer.
