Wandering Girl's Dad Charged; Apartment Full Of Dangerous Ammunition
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Little Havana father was arrested after police found a small arsenal in his apartment and his three-year old daughter wandering the hallways of the apartment building.
Luis Bianchi, 25, has been charged with child neglect and has posted bond.
Bianchi will likely be allowed to return to his home near SW 3 Street and SW 9 Avenue later Thursday.
His daughter, found wandering his apartment complex building after a resident called police around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, is currently in custody of the Department of Children and Families while the courts figure out the best person to place her with.
Officers said the child and a neighbor confirmed where she child lived and when police went to the apartment, they found the door open. When they walked inside looking for the child's parents, they found something else instead.
"What we did find was one grenade, several assault rifles and an arsenal of ammunition," said Det. Willie Moreno.
Police say they found the weapons out in open next to the bed and the girl's father wasn't around. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives has confirmed that the weapons were legal and the grenade was not live.
Bianchi, according to police, was at work Wednesday evening managing a liquor store when he saw that he was wanted by police on the 11 o'clock news.
He turned himself in and found out that his young daughter, identified by her grandfather as Ana Elise Bianchi, was wandering around their Little Havana apartment building alone.
Bianchi told police that the girl's mother, identified by the young girl's grandfather mas Liz Marie Bones, was on her way to babysit the little girl.
Bianchi's father told CBS4's Natalia Zea that his son is a doting father who simply made a mistake. While his son does have a permit for a handgun, he was surprised by the arsenal found in his home. His father also told Zea that police found army fatigues in his closet but his son was never in the army.
Ana Elise, while her father faces a child neglect charge, will spend her fourth birthday in the care of the court system.
