Cyclospora Outbreak Has Sickened 24 In Florida
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — The cyclospora outbreak stretching across the nation has now sickened 24 people in Florida, according to state health officials.
The number of cases under investigation increased over the weekend, and now one person is in the hospital.
But Florida Department of Health officials said Monday they have still not found common links to restaurants or food ingredients that may have caused the outbreak.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said most cyclospora infections around the country occurred from mid-June to early July.
Cyclospora causes diarrhea and other flu-like symptoms. The illness spreads when people ingest foods or water contaminated with feces. Previous outbreaks of cyclospora infections have been linked to various types of fresh vegetables and berries.
However, no link has been found between all of the cases in the current outbreak.
