Cutler Bay Family Escapes Early Morning House Fire
CUTLER BAY (CBS4) - A close call for a Cutler Bay family after an early morning fire severely damaged their home.
The fire broke out around 3:00 a.m. in the single story family home in the 9500 block of Tony Drive.
"My sister in law told me she smelled smoke, she went to go check on the girls on the opposite side of the house. When she went back to the room the smell got stronger so she woke up my brother, he told her to evacuate the girls and when he checked, the flames were raging," said Anahi Areco.
When firefighters arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames and smoke was streaming from the windows.
The family was able to get out safely. Firefighters had a little difficulty at first because the nearest hydrant was about 300 feet way. Once they were able to get a water line to the home, they were able to put out the fire in about half an hour.
The family plans to stay with relatives. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
