MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Cuban state media has released new images of Fidel Castro.
The ex-Cuban leader is shown meeting with Kuwaiti prince Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah who is also the president of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC).
In the pictures, posted on Cuba Debate, Castro is seen speaking with Al-Sabah and shaking hands. One picture, shows them talking while Al-Sabah is holding a globe.
Al-Sabah concluded a two-day trip on Monday after also meeting with Cuban National Olympic Committee President José Ramón Fernández Alvarez and the Cuban Sports Minister Dr Antonio Becali. According to ANOC, they discussed preparations for the Olympics in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil this year.
Following his trip, Al-Sabah released a statement on the matter saying in part,
"Cuba is a country with a very rich sporting heritage and has produced many sporting champions. The country is undergoing a period of change at the moment and the progress it is making in developing its relationships within the international community truly reflects the Olympic spirit. I am very pleased to see there is good cooperation between the sports movement and the government which helps ensure a positive environment for the athletes. Sport can play a key role not just in Cuba but in countries throughout the world in helping them build a brighter and more harmonious future. I have no doubt that the Cuban athletes competing at Rio 2016 will provide a source of inspiration and pride for the country."
As for Fidel Castro, the last time he was seen was when he appeared on state television last month. Fidel delivered a speech to the Communist Party and told party members he would soon die and urged them to help his ideas survive.
