MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The fight against Ebola has created grounds for an unlikely alliance between the U.S. and Cuba.
On Monday, Cuba will host a summit on Ebola with Latin American leaders to discuss preventing an outbreak in the region. Former leader Fidel Castro said Cuba would "gladly cooperate" with the U.S. to help fight the virus.
Cuba has sent 165 doctors and nurses to help fight Ebola in Sierra Leone and it plans to send nearly 300 more health professionals to Liberia and Guinea.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has praised their efforts and referred to Cuba's response as a compliment to American efforts to control the disease.
