Cruz: "Everyone Knew Donald Was Going To Win His Home State."

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) -- Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz spoke while in South Florida Wednesday afternoon - a day after a loss for his campaign in New York.
Trump picked up 89 of New York's 95 delegates. John Kasich won four delegates and Cruz was shut out.
"Everyone knew Donald was going to win his home state but at the end of the day to earn the Republican nomination you have to earn the support of a majority of the delegates elected by the people and we are on a path to doing that and Donald is on a path to losing the nomination," said Cruz who is attending the Republican National Committee Spring meeting held in Hollywood.
Trump's New York win may mean a clear path for him to clinch the nomination by the time the primaries are done if he continues to win. Despite that, Cruz said he is hopeful.
"I continue to be tremendously encouraged by what we have seen played out in the last month. Republicans are continuing to unite behind our campaign," said Cruz.
Trump has won 47 percent of the delegates awarded so far. He has to win 57 percent of the remaining delegates to clinch the nomination and avoid a contested convention.
Cruz and Kasich can only hope to block Trump, forcing a convention, to be held in Cleveland, in which no one has a clear majority of the delegates.
Kasich is almost certain it will happen.
"We are going to an open convention. No one is going to get the delegates and the delegates will choose who they want for president," Kasich said.
Cruz agreed with the notion.
"At that point, it is going to be a battle to see who can earn the support of a majority of the delegates elected by the people. I believe we will have a tremendous advantage in that battle because the party is unifying behind our campaign," said Cruz.
As for a possibility of him dropping out, he said, "The only condition in which I would leave the race is if there were no clear path to victory...at this point we are headed on a path to victory."
