Crist Has The Votes To Pardon Doors' Jim Morrison

TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) - Nearly forty years after his death, Doors front man Jim Morrison may receive an official pardon from the State of Florida for a 1969 indecent exposure conviction.

Governor Charlie Crist has been considering a pardon since a fan suggested it in 2007 but has waited until his final Clemency Board meeting. On Wednesday, Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink said Wednesday she'll vote for the pardon, giving Crist the second of two other board members he needs for approval. Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson had already said he would support it. Attorney General Bill McCollum hasn't said how he'll vote.

The board will vote on the pardon Thursday.

Morrison was in the process of appealing the conviction when he was found dead in a Paris bathtub in 1971.

The governor says he has doubts about whether Morrison exposed himself during an infamous and rowdy concert at Miami's Dinner Key Auditorium in Coconut Grove on March 1, 1969. The surviving band members say a drunken Morrison teased the crowd, but never actually exposed himself.

Morrison, born in Melbourne, Florida and one-time Florida State University student, was sentenced to six months in jail but never served any time.

Crist leaves office Jan. 4.
