Crimson Tide Picked To Top SEC In 2013
HOOVER, Ala. (CBSMiami) – Wash. Rinse. Repeat. That's almost what the Southeastern Conference media believes will happen in the 2013 season.
The media's overwhelming pick in the SEC's preseason poll was for the Alabama Crimson Tide to win the conference championship again.
In the preseason poll released Thursday, the Crimson Tide received 182 of a possible 243 first-place votes. The Georgia Bulldogs was picked to win the Eastern Division and finished with the second-most first-place votes with 38, while South Carolina received 18 first-place votes.
The media picked Alabama to dominate the Western Division with 1,681 points followed by Texas A&M, LSU, Ole Miss, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Arkansas. In the Eastern Division, Georgia is followed by South Carolina, Florida, Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Missouri, and Kentucky.
Perhaps the most surprising number that came out of the preseason vote was South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was not named a unanimous first-team All SEC selection. Clowney is the top defensive end in all of college football and will be a Heisman Trophy candidate.
Still, roughly 20 or so members of the media saw fit not to name him a unanimous selection.
