Crime Stoppers Ups The Ante In Tequila Forshee Murder
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The reward for information into the murder of Miami Gardens 12-year-old Tequila Forshee is now up to $30,000.
Forshee's family joined Miami Gardens city leaders and the deputy police chief for the announcement at the police department Tuesday.
"Somebody somewhere knows something about what took place that night," said Chanae Forshee, Tequila's aunt. "We are asking anyone with a conscience to step forward to help out little TT."
A bullet struck Forshee in the head last Wednesday night as her hair was being braided in preparation for the new school year.
She died at the home.
Investigators handed out flyers hoping for information, but almost a week later, no arrest had been made.
On Monday, the Miami Gardens city council passed a resolution creating a Crime Information reward fund, which will operate in conjunction with Miami-Dade Crimestoppers.
An anonymous donation of $25,000 dollars was made specifically for information in this case.
Crimestoppers is contributing the other $5,000.
"That reward is going to go to the first person who calls us," Miami-Dade Crimestoppers president Dick Masten said. "If you're sitting on it, you better call right now.
Miami Gardens Deputy Police Chief Paul Miller said they're looking for 4 people between 15 and 18 years old.
He said investigators were told the people were riding two bicycles, doubled up, near the scene the night of the shooting.
He said it's time for someone to come forward with information.
"If you have not picked up the phone," Miller said, "ask yourself why not?"
Mayor Oliver Gilbert called the crime "unspeakable and outrageous".
"They don't deserve one more second of freedom," Mayor Gilbert said. "Help us make this the safest community possible"
