Crime Stoppers Reenacts Park Murder Scene To Garner Tips
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers spent Thursday night reenacting a crime scene to piece together a murder that took the life of a 17-year-old girl.
The scene played out like this: a car zoomed into Soar Park with guns pointed from the windows. Seconds later, three people fell – two men in the parking lot and a girl on a bench.
"I felt every shot. I felt every shot," said Regina Gardner, the stepmother of Keimouria Gardner.
While no bullets were fired and the blood wasn't real, Gardner felt real pain as she watched the reenactment of the murder.
"Everything in a matter of seconds taken away all because of something so senseless," said Gardner. "No respect for life. None whatsoever."
Seventeen year old Keimouria Gardner was watching her nieces and nephews play in the park in late March when she was hit in the head by a stray bullet.
She later died. Police said two men were the intended targets. One of them died as well.
Crime Stoppers hopes creating a reenactment of the murder will bring in tips.
"We hope that somebody out there in the public will see something that jogs their memory or maybe just gets them to call and give us the tip," said Dick Masten, Executive Director of Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
Keimouria's grieving stepmother begged anyone with information to come forward.
"There's definitely no honor in silence," said Gardner. "The honor is when you do the right thing when you see innocent people get hurt. The honor is in doing the right thing making a phone call and letting the proper people know."
Regina Gardner said it's the only way to stop the loss of innocent lives.
"Silence kills, we must come together as a community," Gardner added. "We must come together as a community to stop these cold blooded heartless thugs from destroying our families."
Crime Stoppers' television program airs on CBS4 at 12:30 a.m. Sunday mornings. The program featuring this reenactment is expected to air in a few weeks.
