Court Documents Detail Confession In S. Miami Facebook Murder Case
MIAMI (CBS4) - Court documents in the case against Derek Medina detail his confession to police.
In an affidavit filed with Miami-Dade County Court, police say Medina confessed to killing his wife and posting pictures of her dead body on Facebook.
Police say Medina told them he killed Jennifer Alfonso because she came at him with a kitchen knife, then punched him.
"Mr. Medina admitted he armed himself with a gun and pointed it at the victim, at which time she armed herself with a knife," wrote detectives.
The affidavit goes on to say Medina was able to get the knife away from his wife and put it in a kitchen drawer, where it was later recovered as evidence. It went on to say he shot her "six to eight times because she began to punch him" and that the entire ordeal was recorded "because of surveillance cameras he has installed throughout the house."
Detectives say Media also admitted to taking photos of his wife's dead body saying "RIP Jennifer Alfonso" and posting commentary about the killing on his Facebook page.
In a search warrant return obtained by CBS4 News, detective wrote they seized several hand guns, a taser, and a kitchen knife. They also wrote in the return they seized three computers and two cell phones which may have been used to transmit the images of Alonso and to post his alleged online confessions.
