Couples Say "I Do" At Pollo Tropical On Valentine's Day
OAKLAND PARK (CBSMiami) - Couples made their way to courthouses across the country Friday to get married on Valentine's Day.
It's a romantic tradition. For couples in love, flowers are another great tradition.
At Jim Threlkel's Florist in Oakland Park, roses were flying out the door all day.
But even while working at breakneck speed, there's was a lot of love there.
"Twenty-years ago today my husband proposed to me!" said Julie Sophir.
Others stopped on the side of the road and buy their sweetheart a teddy bear with the message of "I love you" on it.
Customers could also pick up a racy present on the side of the road, like a rose, that's not really a rose.
"It's an artificial rose, it's made out of silk," explained vendor Johnny Johns at his stand on Powerline and Cypress Creek. "It's a panty rose, it's a lace up panty."
For Suzanne Leroux and Matt Solly, Valentine's Day was about merging tradition, with their own way of doing things.
They got married in the parking lot of Pollo Tropical.
The restaurant was offering free weddings. But there's a reason they wanted to exchange vows here. "It's the first place we ate at when we were together," Suzanne explained with a chuckle.
Suzanne and Matt met on her late parents' anniversary. She knew he was the real deal and these two are used to doing things by their own set of rules.
Even Matt's proposal didn't follow tradition. "He came into the kitchen and said, 'Pollo Tropical is, they're going to have free weddings at Pollo Tropical on Atlantic.'" She said, "Is that a proposal?" He said, "Yes." And I said, "Yes."
The two have dated for just over a year.
