Couple's Fight Turned Deadly In Coral Springs
CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – A domestic dispute turned deadly in Coral Springs Sunday evening after a man reportedly went after his on-again, off-again girlfriend, but she got the upper hand.
When police arrived at a home in the 5300 block of 126th Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. they found a man, Glenroy Jacobs, dead in the street from a gunshot wound.
Jacobs' girlfriend, who was injured, was taken to North Broward Medical Center where she was questioned by police.
Apparently, everything started as an argument between the couple.
"During the dispute, the male armed himself with a machete at which time the female armed herself with a firearm," said Coral Springs Police Lt. Joe McHugh.
After that, the dispute turned violent and ended with a shooting.
"The female did suffer a severe laceration to her hand as a result of being struck with the machete from the male," Lt. McHugh said. "In return, the female fired one gunshot, striking the male in the upper torso and killing him."
The woman's 13-year old daughter and the couple's two year old daughter, who were in the residence at the time of the shooting, were not harmed.
"They've had a relationship for four years," Lt. McHugh said. "It's been on and off again, very rocky relationship. He moved back in to the residence about a month ago. Last night, obviously another dispute occurred resulting in him being killed."
Neighbors in the gated community were stunned that something like this could have happened.
"I'm speechless. I wouldn't expect that to happen in my neighborhood," said Walid Memom.
"Oh my God, it gives me chills. They were very quiet, good neighbors." said neighbor Maria Romero. "It is scary, it's very scary. Wow. And I was home and I didn't hear anything last night. Nothing. Nothing at all."
Police have not released the name of the injured woman because she was the victim of domestic abuse. McHugh sais the evidence will be turned over to the state attorney who will determine what charges, if any, will be filed against the woman.
