Couple Helps Others Be Good Sports
FORT LAUDERDALE - A husband and wife in South Florida are looking to combine their passions of sports and being committed to working for the community. They have spent years sharpening their skills; and now the duo is hoping their hard work pays off.
"Who doesn't want sport and who doesn't like to help others," said Fortuna Privis
Gene Privis, and his wife Fortuna, are getting the chance to combine their passions. They are the owners of the Play It Again Sports store in Coral Springs.
"We sell, we trade, and buy new and used sports goods equipment," said Fortuna Privis.
It's more than a family business, sports is in their blood. Their son is a goalie on a hockey team; and their daughter also carves the ice.
"We love sports. We are involved. Our whole family is involved with sports from soccer to hockey," said Fortuna Privis, who began a donation drive with her husband at their store.
"They don't want to sell it. They don't want to throw it away," Gene Privis said. "They want to donate it to a good cause that somebody else can use it in good health."
All of the donations will go to the Salvation Army.
"We do softball; we do basketball; we have pool, tennis, golf," said Major Henry Hudson of the Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center in Fort Lauderdale. "We do those different things to help a man get back into the swing of things."
When you drop off your equipment, which can range from shoes to helmets to equipment, at Play it Again Sports in Coral Springs, you'll get a receipt for your taxes and a $5 store credit.
