Couple Finds Robbers Hiding In Closet

HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) - Christina Aiken and her boyfriend Attila Kovacs took their dog for a brief walk outside last Sunday afternoon. When they returned to their apartment at The Tides in Hollywood, they figured they would head to the beach.

Aiken changed into a bikini and opened her closet to grab a sundress. That's when the couple got the scare of their lives.

"I saw a man standing there and it was absolutely terrifying. I screamed at the top of my lungs," Aiken told CBS4's Carey Codd.

Aiken and her boyfriend ordered the two men to empty their pockets; they dropped her diamond bracelet and a lens cap to their camera. But the men refused to open their satchel.

Aiken said she tried to grab her phone to call 911, but her phone was gone. She ran to the front desk for help while Attila tried to keep the thieves in the apartment.

However, the men escaped. In a nearby stairwell, the men left a shopping bag with the couple's Nikon camera and Sony Playstation. Aiken said the men also stole the couple's cell phones, an iPod and lots of jewelry.

"Two diamond rings, two diamond earrings, a diamond bracelet and a Movado watch," she said.

Aiken identified one of the men as a resident of the building. She said she saw the young man sitting just a few feet from her apartment on the day before the break-in.

Hollywood Police arrested a 16-year-old on Wednesday afternoon for burglary. They are searching for another suspect in the crime.

Aiken admits she and her boyfriend left their front door unlocked when they left to walk their dog. For this couple, it's a lesson learned.

"We thought we were moving into a secure building and didn't think ever that another tenant would be robbing us," she said. "It makes us feel horrible."
