Couple Charged In Wilton Manors Pet Med Theft
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A former employee of Arbor Animal Hospital in Wilton Manors and her boyfriend has been accused of stealing pet meds and selling them online.
Paige Johnson, 20, worked for the animal hospital for three years prior but left last month after getting into a dispute with the management.
Johnson had a key to the business duplicated, according to Wilton Manors police, and began stealing large amounts of animal medications after the business was closed at night.
Johnson then listed the medications for sale on Craig's list.
An undercover detective from Wilton Manors police, who is assigned to the Broward County Drug Task Force, purchased some of the stolen animal meds from Johnson's 25-year old boyfriend Casey Horton on two occasions, according to police.
After month-long investigation, Johnson and Horton were arrested and charged with six counts each of burglary and Grand Theft.
Police said both Johnson and Horton have cooperated and given statements detailing how they stole more than forty thousand dollars of pet medications over six different occasions.
