Country Walk Man Kills Wife, Himself, Police Say
SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - Family members gathered at the Country Walk home of Luis and Mireya Irigoyen Sunday ended the day in mourning, after police say Luis apparently shot and killed his wife, and then turned the gun on himself. Police are still trying to figure out why.
Police were called to the home in the Stoneybrook subdivision shortly after 6:30 Sunday night. Miami-Dade police spokesperson Lieutenant Rosanna Cordero-Stutz said family members reported that a woman in the home had been shot.
When police arrived, they found the body of Mireya Irigoyen in a bedroom, and then, found her husband's body nearby.
Cordero-Stutz said it appeared Luis Irigoyen shot his wife, and then shot himself.
She said while other people were in the home, the shootings took place in another room, and nobody appeared to have witnessed the shootings.
Police said the couple was in their 60's, but could not say what led to the shooting. Police questioned those in the home in an effort to uncover the reason for the deaths.
