Coral Springs Police: Man Tried To Board One-Way Plane After Killing His Mom

CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – Coral Springs Police said they have lots of evidence that Bradley Dorman murdered his mother, Marilyn Clarke-Bevins, while she slept in the early morning hours of October 27th. But the one thing they don't know is why.
Police said Dorman bought a gun in late October, traveled to his mother's house, snuck inside and fired 12 shots, killing her.
"He went in with intent," said Chief Anthony Pustizzi. "He went in with a plan."
Chief Pustizzi said detectives thought it strange that Dorman did not respond to calls or texts from his siblings about the murder and that he skipped his mom's funeral.
Police said when they caught up with Dorman they found his gun and crime scene investigators matched the shell casings from the crime scene to the weapon. While he was being watched, detectives said Dorman headed to the airport Tuesday in Palm Beach County with a one-way ticket in hand.
"As he got through the screening process and attempted to board the plane, he was taken down by members of TSA and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office," Pustizzi said.
Once he was arrested, police said they learned that New York was probably not Dorman's last stop.
Investigators said he had a Canadian driver's license, Canadian social insurance card, possible gold coins and bars along with a Canadian health care membership card and a Canadian library card on him.
Authorities said Dorman has Canadian citizenship and family there.
"There is a possibility that if he boarded that plane we'd never see him again," Pustizzi said.
Investigators said the pain for the family of Marilyn Clarke-Bevins – a beloved woman and respected respiratory therapist – is immeasurable and only compounded knowing that one of her own children is accused of murdering her.
"At some point, something went wrong," Pustizzi said. "Something went tragic and this gentleman, unfortunately, took his mother's life."
Investigators said they're still trying to determine a motive.
"As far as motive, he's refusing to speak to us," Pustizzi said. "He hasn't been cooperative since the beginning."
Dorman is expected to go before a judge Thursday morning on a charge of first-degree murder.
