Coral Springs Names New Police Chief
CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – For Deputy Chief Tony Pustizzi of the Coral Springs Police Department years of hard work, determination and perseverance have finally paid off.
The former Deputy Police Chief was named the new Chief of Police by City Manager Erdal Donmez on Wednesday.
The title was made official Friday morning during a ceremony held by Donmez.
"I am extremely proud of the three hundred men and woman of this police department," said Pustizzi to the police department. "I am honored to be given the opportunity to be the chief of police and leader of such a tremendously hardworking department."
Pustizzi has a long career in police work. He started with the Coral Springs Police Department in 1988 and served as patrol officer until 1993 when he transferred to the Criminal Investigations Unit as a detective.
He was promoted to sergeant in 1995 and served as supervisor to a wide variety of units within the agency until 2002 when he was promoted to captain.
During the next 10 years, Pustizzi bared many titles including Criminal Investigations Unit Commander and Deputy Police Chief of the Operations Division; he also oversaw the Administration Division and up until his appointment as Chief of Police, was in charge of the Operations Division which included the Patrol Component, Criminal Investigations Component, Special Operations Component, the Traffic Unit, and the Humane Unit.
Pustizzi has a B.A. Degree in Criminology from the University of Florida and earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Florida Atlantic University.
