Construction, Closures Begin Tuesday On Florida's Turnpike
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - If you take Florida's Turnpike in Broward County late at night, you will be inconvenienced for a few days.
Transportation officials will close the northbound and southbound lanes of the Turnpike between Commercial Blvd (Exit 62) and Coconut Creek (Exit 67) for up to three nights. The nightly road closures begin on Tuesday at 11 p.m., with the lanes reopening in time for the morning commute at 5 a.m. Construction will take place through Thursday night, but officials have the option to continue the work through Friday if necessary.
The Pompano Service plaza and Atlantic Blvd (Exit 66) southbound Turnpike entrance will also be closed during the above mentioned dates. Northbound drivers will be detoured off the Turnpike at Commercial Blvd (Exit 62) and then directed east to SR7 / US 441. Drivers can then reenter the Turnpike at Coconut Creek (Exit 67). Southbound drivers will be detoured off the Turnpike at Coconut Creek (Exit 67) and then directed west to SR7 / US 441. Drivers can the reenter the Turnpike at Commercial Blvd (Exit 62).
Road crews will be removing and placing sign structures which span the entire width of the Turnpike. The construction is part of the Broward Widening project. The last phase of the project, expected to be completed this summer, will be the addition of a northbound lane between Sunrise Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard.
