Condo May Use DNA Testing To Track Dog Poop
JUPITER, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – Call it a really, um, stinky CSI problem.
A Florida condo association in Jupiter, the Village of Abacoa Condominium Association, has decided it will require dog owners to pay $200 to keep the dogs' DNA on file at the DNA Pet World Registry.
The reason behind the doggie DNA requirement is a mess. The condo association said it will collect any steaming pile a dog leaves behind; and then mail it to the company to compare the DNA with DNA from dogs in the condo complex.
Once the dog is identified, the association will fine the owner up to $1,000 or place a lien on their home. In addition, a dog that's said to be a constant offender could be confiscated.
The complex said cleaning up after dog owners who don't clean up after their dogs costs between $10,000 and $12,000 per year.
