FORT PIERCE (CBSMiami/AP) — After hundreds of yellow tin coffee cans fell from a barge and washed along the Florida coast, an environmental advocacy group is leading clean-up efforts.
Oceana organized the cleanup at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park on Saturday.
The U.S. Coast Guard says at least 25 containers slipped off a barge last weekend between Port Canaveral and West Palm Beach.
A few days later, hundreds of Cafe Bustelo coffee cans started washing along the beaches on Florida's Space Coast and Treasure Coast.
Oceana officials say the cans and other barge debris could pose a threat to sea turtles, surfers and boaters.
