Coast Guards Monitor Gas Spill In North Bay Village
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The U.S. Coast Guard is keeping a close eye on North Bay Village after two fuel lines collapsed and ruptured sending more than 200 gallons of gasoline into the Biscayne Bay.
Around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Coast Guard Sector Miami received a call from the North Bay Village police about the spill at the Greenview Fuel Lines' dock.
The Coast Guard then sent a MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew to perform an over flight of the area.
The spill is reported to be about 500 yards in length, from the east end of the island to Miami Beach. It contains about five gallons of diesel and 220 gallons of gasoline.
Coast Guard pollution investigators said Greenview hired a commercial salvage company to boom off the location.
At this time there are no waterway closures as a result of this incident but boaters are encouraged to monitor VHF marine channel 16 for updates.
The cause of the incident is under investigation.
