Coast Guard Resumes Search For Missing SC Kayaker
DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) - Search crews continued their efforts, Saturday, to locate a missing kayaker who left from a park Thursday in Dania Beach.
Coast Guard, along with Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, are in search for a kayaker, identified as David Lemonds, whose car was spotted in the parking lot overnight at a park in Dania Beach.
Lemonds, a South Carolina resident, has been missing since Thursday, according to FWC. He left on his 12-foot yellow kayak from John U. Lloyd Park.
Coast Guard sea and air crews have launched a search of the waters off the Dania Beach park, but so far there has been no sign of Lemonds.
Coast Guard was notified Friday around 9 AM that the kayaker may be missing because his truck was in the park's parking lot.
After asking other kayakers, it is believed he was last seen at 11 AM Thursday.
Lemonds's last known communication was with his wife Thursday morning. She advised FWC that he is a deep sea diver and normally ties the kayak to himself when he's diving--which is usually near reefs. She also said that he has a pacemaker.
Officials describe Lemonds as 5-feet tall, 140 pounds and about 140 to 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black wet suit.
All surrounding counties, Palm Beach to Martin County, have been alerted of Lemonds disappearance.
Coast Guard and FWC are searching the beaches from Dania Beach up to Riviera Beach.
Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Lemonds is asked to contact Coast Guard watchstanders at 305-415-6800.
