Pair Rescued From Plane Crash Off Bahamas
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A dramatic rescue at sea as Coast Guard crews from Miami swept in to rescue two people whose small plane crashed off the Bahamas.
Around 12:15 p.m on Saturday, the Coast Guard command center in Miami received word from 59-year old Richard McGlaughlin that the single engine plane he and his passenger, 25-year old Elaine McGlaughlin, were in had developed engine trouble and they were going down about two miles west of Andros, Bahamas.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft were launched and around 12:30 p.m. found the downed aircraft along with McGlaughlins in an inflatable raft. The rescue helicopter crew arrived on scene at 12:58 p.m. and safely hoisted them onto the aircraft and transferred them to Odyssey Airport in Nassau, Bahamas.
The McGlaughlins, who are from Alabama, were not injured in the crash.
