Coast Guard Makes $35 Million High-Seas Cocaine Seizure
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Nearly 3-thousand pounds of cocaine, worth an estimated $35 million, has been interdicted at sea by the U.S. Coast Guard.
The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Resolute discovered the multi-million dollar stash on a 35-foot go-fast boat while on patrol in international waters off the coast of Honduras Tuesday.
During a pursuit of the boat, four suspected Honduran drug smugglers jumped into the water in an attempt to escape but they were all captured and detained.
When crews searched the boat, they found 53 bales of cocaine, according to the Coast Guard.
The interdiction was carried out as part of Operation Martillo, a broad effort to stop drug trafficking along the Central American coast.
