Key Biscayne Doc And Co-Creator Of Retin-A Dies
MIAMI (CBS4) – Teenagers have thanked their dermatologists for years as they fight acne, but many may have never known a Key Biscayne doctor was one of the leading researchers behind preventing pimples.
Dr. James E. Fulton Jr., died July 4 at Mercy Hospital according to CBS4 news partner, The Miami Herald.
He was 73.
The paper reported his wife business partner and fellow chemist, Sara Fulton, revealed he died of colon cancer.
Fulton was the co-creator of Retin-A.
Together, the Fultons co-founded the Vivant Skin Care line, which based treatment on vitamin A therapies, in 1990.
The company makes 30 skin-care products in the $15 to $100 range, using only U.S.-made ingredients, at an FDA-approved plant in Miami Lakes.
In addition to helping create acne medications, Fulton pioneered cosmetic surgical procedures to reduce acne scars and fat transfer procedures for breast augmentation.
Fulton was born in Iowa, but grew up in California. He arrived in Miami after medical school in the early 1970s.
