Clevelander owners submit plans to turn hotel into housing development
MIAMI - The owners of the Clevelander Hotel and Bar submitted plans to the city of Miami Beach to transform the property into a restaurant and 18-story housing development.
Miami Beach residents and city officials were quick to denounce the idea last month when the owners announced their original 30-story proposal.
The proposed tower would still be the tallest along the row of hotels and bars on Ocean Drive, where heights are limited to 50 feet.
The city will review the application for compliance.
If approved, the developer could then bypass public hearings and seek a building permit.
