Classroom Under the "Sea," World Record Attempt to Begin Friday
KEY LARGO (CBSMiami/FKNB) – An attempt to set a new world record will begin Friday morning in the Florida Keys.
Associate Professor Bruce Cantrell and Adjunct Instructor Jessica Fain from Roane State Community College in Tennessee are to begin a planned 73-day underwater living mission in the Jules Undersea Lodge underwater habitat, positioned about 30-feet deep in a Florida Keys' lagoon in Key Largo.
While underwater, they are to host a weekly live online program about marine science open to all students via YouTube and Cantrell is to teach a college credit class online for Roane State students. The project is dubbed "Classroom Under the Sea."
The duo also hopes to set a world record for the longest human underwater habitation.
The current record is 69 days and 19 minutes, established by Rick Presley when he resided at Jules in 1992.
