City Vows To Shut Down SoBe Mansion Super Bowl Party
MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) – There are Super Bowl parties and then there are super Super Bowl bowl parties.
One being planned on Miami Beach sounds a doozy.
For the price of admission, party goers get to enjoy six DJs, free-flowing liquor, a "sensational" bikini contest, dancing girls and a concert to wrap up the night, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
The only real sticking point, however, is that it is illegal and city officials have vowed to shut it down.
"The public is reminded that public ticket sales to parties at private single-family homes in Miami Beach are not permitted under the City of Miami Beach City Code," said city spokeswoman Nannette Rodriguez in a statement. "Do not become a victim. Do not purchase these tickets, whether in person, by mail, over the phone, or the Internet, as these type of parties are illegal in Miami Beach and will be shut down. It causes all types of headaches and traffic, and is not allowed, these are commercial events."
Watson James, one of the people who organized the party at a mansion in the 6300 block of N. Bay Road, said he didn't know what they were planning was illegal until he was contacted by a reporter from the Miami Herald.
James, who doesn't live in the mansion but said he knows the owner, said it started as a get-together with friends to watch the Super Bowl and morphed into something bigger. He said in the last three weeks, he's arranged for luxury cars from Boca Raton, dancing-girls and a 25-foot big screen to watch the big game.
"I really had no idea, and if the party is cancelled, then cancel the problem," he told the paper.
CBS4 news tried to reach out to the owner of the house. According to the city , the house was recently sold and the attorney for the new owner said no permission has been given for anyone to hold a party there. Security will be there this Sunday to be sure there are not any problems on the property.
So is the party off? Not exactly.
Tickets can still be purchased online; they run $80 for women and $100 for men. Once tickets are purchased, the buyer will find out where the party is going to be held.
