Cifu On Panthers- "You've Got To Score 3 Or More Goals And We're Not Doing It"
Florida Panthers Co-Owner, Doug Cifu joined the Big O Show on 560 WQAM to discuss the Panthers ugly loss to the Minnesota Wild and the future of the franchise. They also talk about the way fans are reacting to the team's struggles this season and the firing of Gerard Gallant.
On the fans reaction to the Gallant firing- "I get it."
On the Panthers struggles- "You've got to score 3 or more goals and we're not doing it. I'm not the hockey expert. We have the personnel. They just need to perform. It's not about the defense. The team's not lacking in toughness. The issue is we're not scoring."
"I'm not making any excuses. The team is under performing"
On head coach/general manager Tom Rowe- "For what we needed right now, he was the right guy. It's not like we hired some 23 year old kid."
On fans upset about all the moves- "Name a forward that was on the Florida Panthers at the end of last season that is productive in the NHL right now. One guy playing, Logan Shaw. The outside world doesn't get it as much but at the end of the day, we have a plan. We obviously have put our money where our mouth is."
On the changes in recent years- "We were not a great drafting team under the old system. That's why we made a whole bunch of changes."
On the idea of division in the locker room- "It's all kind of BS. Nobody wants to win more than Vinny Trocheck."
On Shawn Thornton and Dylan McIlrath- "Our previous coach chose not to play them."
On president of hockey operations Dale Tallon- "Everything he did over the last six years was not perfect."
