Christmas Travel Anything But Frightful In South Florida
MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami International Airport was bustling Tuesday, busy with travelers flying away to celebrate Christmas or flying in to be with family in South Florida. Fortunately the weather outside was not frightful.
Indeed, with heavy snow forecast only for Wisconsin and Minnesota, Christmas Eve travel conditions delivered a smooth gift for most enroute to holiday cheer.
Even those who had some problems managed to maintain good humor.
"There was a flight delay, I'm exhausted and now I have to catch a new flight," said Kathy Sampson as she huffed and puffed her way down the concourse, having traveled from one end of the airport to the other. Her arrival in upstate New York would be a few hours later than planned. "I'm out of breath," said Kathy as she lugged a huge suitcase along behind her. "But Merry Christmas, everyone!"
Olivia Bloom had a multi-itinerary trip ahead of her.
"I'm going to Tampa, but then I'm going to Georgia to see my mom," said a smiling Bloom. "My plane is on time, so that's very good."
Jerad Holmes met his sister, Christiana, who had just flown in from Ohio.
"We're going to celebrate with our family in West Palm Beach!" a beaming Jerad exclaimed.
The flight went smoothly, and we're so happy to be here," said Christiana. "Merry Christmas to you!"
John Gilbert, his wife and two children had a not so traditional Christmas vacation ahead of them.
"We're in from Utah and going to Puerto Rico," Gilbert said.
"Looking forward to a warm and sunny Christmas?" asked CBS4's Gary Nelson.
""We hope so!" said Gilbert, exuding a happy holiday glow.
A young woman - a French Canadian - was making her way to Montreal where bad weather was delaying her departure by about three hours.
"It's okay," she said with a smile and a heavy French accent.
"How do you say Merry Christmas in French?" Nelson asked.
"Joyeux Noël," replied the young lady. "Go ahead, you can say that," she added, prompting the reporter.
"Joyeux Noël!" declared the reporter, pronouncing it in a way no Frenchman could probably understand.
"That's good," said the young woman, ever so polite.
It is, after all, Christmas Eve.
