Christmas In July For Miami's Homeless
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Rescue Mission held its annual Christmas in July Tuesday morning to help the homeless feel and look better as they try to re-establish themselves in the workforce.
The rescue mission said the purpose of the Christmas in July get together was to let the homeless know what services they offer and to help the homeless be comfortable enough to use the services.
Christmas in July provided food, drinks, and live entertainment for the homeless. Additionally, the homeless could also get a shower, a free haircut, and free health care including screenings for things like high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol.
But the main focus included a job fair to pair the homeless up with potential employees.
"They laid me off and after unemployment I couldn't find no job," said Dorothy Curry. "It's so very hard to find a job. I still haven't found a job."
But Dorothy did finally have some hope while attending the festivities.
"I went over there to train for a cashier and I go there Monday," Curry said. "So maybe, I might be able to get a job."
