Christian Aguilar's Family Visits Site Where Remains Were Found
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A sense of closure of sorts for the family of Christian Aguilar. On Sunday they visited the site near Cedar Key where remains were found.
"We as a family believe that Christian has been found and our prayers have been heard and we want to wait until the authorities confirm it," said Christian's father Carlos.
The remains were found deep in the woods in Levy County, about 60 miles from Gainesville, by hunters. The body had on blue jeans and wore shoes like Christian's.
CBS4's Ted Scouten went to the site on Sunday. He said there was a strong smell in the air and the ground showed shovel marks to bury the body. There were also rocks and sticks over the site. The Aguilar family visited the site early Sunday morning for a private moment.
The woods where the body was found are very swampy, had it not been for hunters it may have never been discovered. The site is in a heavily wooded area in the middle of a private hunt club.
Aguilar had not been seen since September 20th, when he appeared on surveillance video with Pedro Bravo at a Best Buy just 40 miles from where the body had been found.
Duct tape was partially buried with the body. Gainesville police said Bravo bought duct tape and a shovel several days before Aguilar's disappearance.
Bravo has been charged with kidnapping and murder.
As Aguilar's mother cried and hugged other relatives on Saturday, the family thanked everyone for their prayers.
The Aguilar family told the volunteers who had been searching tirelessly, that their work was done. Now they are just waiting for the autopsy to verify that their son has been found, then they plan to bring him home.
"Our family is going to be grieving until the authorities give us the confirmation and at that moment, like we say, we're going to be having the honor to take Christian back home and have his funeral," said Carlos Aguilar.
