Child Sex Abuse Survivor Walks 1,500 Miles To Build Awareness
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — You can't walk 1,500 miles without being noticed or someone asking "Why?"
For Lauren Book, it's very clear why: Book was sexually abused by her female nanny from the age of eleven to sixteen.
Book is walking from Key West to Tallahassee, where she plans to advocate for tougher laws.
Book arrived in Miami on Friday, then met with other survivors and supporters. All participated in a rally with players and coaches from the Miami Heat.
An author and filmmaker, Book is also the founder of Lauren's Kids and launched the Walk in My Shoes campaign in 2010.
Along the walk, Book is providing communities with knowledge on how they can protect their children. She is scheduled to arrive in Tallahassee on April 23.
CBS4's Michele Gillen interviewed Book on "Focus On South Florida" in December. Watch the interview here.
