MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A misunderstanding led to a child being left in the cold early Thursday morning, according to Miami Beach Police.
Police said the little girl was screaming, crying and walking barefoot in an alley just after 4:00 a.m. near Pennsylvania Ave and 9th Street.
The little girl led officers to an apartment nearby where they found a little girl sleeping but no parents were inside the home at the time.
Fire rescue crews treated the child as a precaution since it was cold outside.
Police said once they were able to get in touch with the mother, it ended up being a misunderstanding.
The mother had left the home to go to work and said she called the babysitter.
She told police she thought they would be alone in the apartment for mostly five to 10 minutes.
The babysitter misunderstood and never showed up, according to police.
Officers said there were no issues with the apartment.
Officials with the Department of Children and Families said they will work with the family to provide resources for them.
Police said they will not be pressing any charges.
