2-Year-Old Boy Stable After 2-Story Fall

MIAMI (CBS4) - A two-year old boy is in stable condition Friday afternoon after falling from the second floor of a Homestead building.

Homestead Police said the a father checked his son in at his pediatrician's office at 151 NW 11th Street around 9:00 a.m. then stepped outside to make a phone call.

Suddenly, the boy went over the railing and tumbled 20 feet to the hard, concrete ground below. Witnesses said it was a chaotic scene as two doctors rushed out of their offices to tend to the child.

"I looked down, saw the boy," said witness Steve Stern. "He tried to get up and of course the doctors were great. They ran down the stairs. I've seen cases where doctors are worried to run down and render aid, but they were there in a second."

The doctors tended to the boy until fire rescue arrived. He was airlifted to Miami Children's Hospital where he remains in stable condition.

Police have no plans to charge the father; they said it was simply an accident.

Detective Morales said this serves as a reminder to all parents to remember that kids love to climb, no matter their age, and parents must always keep a close eye on their children.
