Abbott was presented with the award at 5:15 p.m. during his usual Wednesday feedings on Fort Lauderdale Beach. The Farver Foundation also donated $15,000 to Abbott's organization Love Thy Neighbor.
Feeding the homeless in Fort Lauderdale has been a major issue since the city passed an ordinance that made distributing meals in public more difficult.
Abbott had been citied three times and even had to appear in court for constantly defying the ordinance.
On Monday, a judge ordered the enforcement of the law to be suspended for 45 days.
So the city won't be giving Abbott any coal during the holidays.
