Cheap Eats: Salsa Fiesta
PEMBROKE PINES (CBS4) – If you're in the mood for authentic Mexican cuisine and don't want to break the bank, look no further than Salsa Fiesta in Pembroke Pines.
Salsa Fiesta is described as fresh, fast, casual and cool and it's one of hottest Mexican restaurants to hit West Broward in a while.
Salsa Fiesta is a home grown South Florida success story.
The first Salsa Fiesta opened at 29th Street and Biscayne Boulevard 3 years ago by owners Cesar Olivo and Samuel Perez. Last year, their second Mayan inspired eatery opened its doors off Pines Boulevard in Pembroke Pines and the word has spread.
"We are very happy with this area. It's very popular, everybody's happy with this plaza," said co-owner Cesar Olivo.
The emphasis on Salsa Fiesta is freshness.
Everything from the creamy and chunky guacamole sauce to any of the creative dishes are made to order in full view for all to see.
Mexican food gets a bad rap about being fattening, but that's not so here.
"Here you can find many light items; you can have a good healthy meal here without having things that very heavy," explained Olivo.
The Social Wall, located right next to the menus, has reviews from local papers that sing the restaurant's praises.
At Salsa Fiesta, it's also important to be served fast.
"We are not only doing the best quality we can, but as fast as we can. Here we have a new system that is giving us a total score of 100% because we are serving food at average of 4 minutes and 25 seconds. Our goal is to be under 6 minutes all the time," said co-owner Sam Perez.
So it's fresh and fast but how does it taste?
CBS4's Lisa Petrillo gave the Mexican Tortas sandwich a try. She said it's like a Milanese south of the order baby, south of the border, that is delicious," exclaimed Lisa.
Next, it was the crunchy lettuce taco.
"It's fresh, light, and crunchy. This is my kind of taco, said Petrillo "You don't miss the shell you don't miss the shell at all."
The Acapulco Salad with sliced steak is both hearty and healthy and the Fajita is a fan favorite.
An average check for a complete meal at Salsa Fiesta is around $10.00.
