Chalmers Helping Kansas Cancer Patients
LAWRENCE, Kan. (CBSMiami.com) – Miami Heat point guard Mario Chalmers came through in the clutch during the Heat's run in the 2011 NBA Finals. He's also coming through in the clutch to help cancer patients in Kansas.
Chalmers, who played his college ball at the University of Kansas, has opened a specialty shop for cancer patients at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
The store, called Mario's Closet is set to offer free or deeply discounted accessories like wigs, prosthetics, and hats to cancer patients.
Chalmers was treated at the hospital when he was injured during his playing days at Kansas. He told the Lawrence Journal-World he wanted to help cancer patients because a friend lost his mother to the disease.
